Mum's story: part 1

Mum' story....

A trip abroad together... Closure. My daughter's request and her dream.

My daughter Veronique asked me some time ago, " mum would you come to New Zealand with me?" 

It was 2013. I was taken aback. Did I want this... ? Could I handle it? I had a long hard think. It struck me as a special moment, a trip of a life time, yet I needed time to think it through.

Her request came out of curiosity. Wanting to see where she was born. Veronique was too young to remember anything about her life there as we left when she was just a baby.

After some soul searching and Herman's supportive comments " what an honour that you have this opportunity to share this with your daughter" I contacted Veronique and told her Yes, I will come with you. We decided on March 2015.


For me the trip will bring closure. Although my time in New Zealand was short, it was full of many happenings. Including my mother's death. I wasn't able to return home due to my pregnancy. I couldn't be there for her and found that extremely difficult. 

Despite some of the negatives there were also happier times and I want to relive some of those and make new memories together with Veronique.
